The negativity on here is plain shit. I like how you talk about how the label's acted and the financial stuff as if you actually have the facts before you. Bottom line is, you can speculate all you want about it; we'll never know.

I get it, you don't rate Here We Stand as much as Costello Music, I can accept that, it's your opinion and much like ass holes, everyone has one and they all stink at some point. I also get that you can say what you want on the forum, for that I'm mighty glad, this isn't teenchat, but to continually bash an album on their forum is a bit much I think.

As for talking about how individual shows went, or how the band felt about, it's all relative. Naturally Mince had no idea how the QMU gig was received, it was new songs, I bet even Springsteen shits it sometimes when he plays brand new unheard tracks at a gig for the first time.

We have two great albums, and numerous other released B-sides and free tracks. They all hit at different points in our lives when different things meant different reactions for different reasons. Here We Stand was the first bulk of new material Julie and I listened to together fresh from the box. Was that more special to me than my initial hearing of Costello Music? Probably yes. For that reason I love Here We Stand more than Costello Music because I can recall where I was and what we were thinking.

Costello Music blew me away for a completely different reason; I felt like I was ten years younger, racing about the country going to gigs, something I'd never done before. Are either more successful than the Arctic Monkeys? No, not by a country mile. So fucking what, to me, both these albums are better because of what the mean to me.

I'll defend both albums to the death for very different reasons. Personal reasons; fuck the label and how you and I think they've acted. Bottom line, we have two albums from a band that seemingly have affected more people through them, than I'm aware of for a debut and a follow up. Maybe that's because I'm not on their forums. Therein lies another exceptional thing; I don't feel enough to join any other band's forum. I listen to their music and that's where the relationship ends. Not with these boys.

I may not even like all three of them, but it can't take away from what they've given me and for that, they really were the best band of the naughties.

agreed.

size and album sales dont make a great band. Miley cyrus sold more than most this year...

the fratellis were the first band i ever became a proper fan of; exciting music, exciting gigs and fan/band interaction that id never heard anyone else experience.

all these factors have made me more of a Jon/Baz/Mince fan than a fratellis fan. Pretty excited for more experiences with Jons new project, and hopefully baz will surface from the nappy pile at some point

Excellent - well said!
Good point about other forums too - I'm exactly the same in that I've never had any inclination to search for others, but for some reason always come back to this one.

Me too. The forum is special and unique just like the band.

Giz, then your opinion can't be taken seriously.

I love the fact you and Julie got married to this album, it was, for a few months, a fantastic album. But it bored me far too much to quickly. I love the Fratellis, always will. The album, without emotional attachment, is a dud.

Awesome article. Cheers Vee. Chelsea Dagger makes such a great sports anthem. I'll never forget the first time I heard it. It's so catchy and unique. It puts you in an instant good mood. Heady Tale does that for me too.

Heady Tale is a classic for me. The "La, la"'s always put me in a good mood.

I never said that anyone should believe or take my opinion over anyone else's. All opinions should be seen as personal, as that's what they are, it's up to you if you want to 'take them seriously' (eh??!!) or not.

I do take exception to the inclusion of label/management's involvement or lack of, as a baramoter by which to measure either yours or other's opinions. 'It didn't sell as well so it must be shitter' isn't a fact is it? There's no corelation. People buy shit all the time. It doesn't mean that Clubland 17 is worse than 16 because it didn't sell as much or get as much push from the label. I bet as many slags got pregnant listening to that gash as the last one.

Bottom line is there will never be a winner in an argument about opinions. So let's just punch each other on the arm really hard and hug and make up. I go first.

I know it's all about individual opinions but, with all due respect, I hate when people shit on Here We Stand. I think it was a great record with a lot of growth and musical maturity. There is great variety in the songs and I loved the production. The B side were great as well. Viva La Here We Stand and Costello Music !

I agree, I adore Here We Stand much more than CM. Jon's songwriting matured so much between the two and the melodies stick in your head from 1st listen. For me, there are only 2 'duds' on the whole album and tracks like 'My Friend John', 'A Heady Tale', 'Milk & Money', 'Tell Me A Lie' are so brilliant that whenever I listen I always think it's such a shame that most people have never heard them. I think the same when I hear some CVC stuff.
