You're talking in semi- and posssibly anti-metaphors. Actually, we haven't invented that one yet!

The Fratellis are not the best band ever though, we feel your pain, well I do, but baby stop your crying! And have some camomile tea!

The Fratellis were the best band of the Naughties, which was a poor decade for music, so they were much needed!

I think he MIGHT be able to get away with it since we're on a Fratellis forum.

There's no way of judging a best band until you bring in testing and grades, but the fratellis were certainly my favourite.

Favourite yes.

Here We Stand, in hindsight was a bit of a disappointment.

But Jon seems to be playing music more Costello Musicesque.

I know it's all about individual opinions but, with all due respect, I hate when people shit on Here We Stand. I think it was a great record with a lot of growth and musical maturity. There is great variety in the songs and I loved the production. The B side were great as well. Viva La Here We Stand and Costello Music !

It had a few stand out tracks, but it wasn't as out reaching as Costello Music. I'd heard Creepin', Chelsea, Flathead, The Gutterati,Cigarello and Got Ma Nuts in clubs. Half of them were demos prior to Costello Music. I'd never heard anything from Here We Stand in a club. People had moved on, there were better bands around and despite it being a good rock record, Here We Stand never had the same appeal as Costello Music. It's impossible to argue any different.

Again, with all due respect, I wasn't at all disappointed with Here We Stand. I think it has some really great songs and I feel like the band showed some maturity in performance and songwriting. I have no idea what's going on in the clubs and I really don't care how well it sold (Justin Bieber has sold millions of CD's). I know it's about individual opinions, and I respect yours, but I really appreciate the effort that the band put out on this one. It was nice to see them progress and these songs entertain me. I realise that everyone may not feel the way I do, but I don't think that means Here We Stand is a disappointment. It just is what it is to whom ever listens to it.

Let's hope that album number 3 appeals to us all :)

Hi, I have been a member since hearing creepin on the radio, prior to release (so I a long time) enjoyed this forum too, though I am rather quiet on it (always reading). Anyway just wanted to add my wee bit.

I loved costello music, and recently was listening to HWS again, which has some brilliant tracks on it. Although the CD's are great, the tracks were far superior when heard live (which I did on numerous occasions). I still prefer listening to live recordings of CM rather than the original CD. Fratellis were (are)a live band!

I saw CVC a few times, I think the CD is great, but, live, Lou's voice, at times, was lost amongst the music. Jon, although very smart in a suit, sometimes gave me the impression of a caged animal, I thought he was too big for the small stage - he played and sang as brilliantly as always.

I am glad he is now going solo, new songs sounding good and I am looking forward to hearing them live in Edinburgh.

Will always hope to see a fratellis reunion.

Am I sitting on the fence too much? Think I will like just about anything Jon does (apart from Free Urban Clown).

txx

Exactly! In MY HONEST OPINION, Here We Stand spoke more to me than Costello Music did, and it's my PERSONAL favourite album. But to each their own.

The Fratellis had 2 albums out in the naughties.

I don't think either reached the height of say Fleet Foxes debut. Kasabian's 2nd and 3rd. Arctic Monkeys 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

Infact, it's impossible to see past the Arctic Monkeys as being the biggest band of the past decade. They kicked off the whole revival of guitar bands in my opinion, especially over here.

Costello Music couldn't justify the investment the label were putting into the band, hence why they never advertised it as much as they did with Costello Music. Here We Stand, already, sounds more dated than Costello Music. The raw energy is what appealed to me and you don't get that on the songs from Here We Stand. I don't think the band enjoyed touring on the second album as much as the first. Mince was disappointed with a few of the shows on the second album tour. I went to the QMU gig and met him outside, he wasn't sure of how good they were that night.
